It is here! As the old New England saying goes, Spring lasted all of two weeks and Summer has exploded around us. Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone had a great summer kick off!

This paid subscriber series will cover everything from my favorite places on Martha’s Vineyard like hikes, beaches, coffee shops, shops etc. I hope you’ll get to know the island really well too, and if you’re visiting, use this to find your way around.

Now that I’ve gotten my inaugural swim out of the way and jumping in the ocean is back to being a top priority I thought it might be useful to share the places I have filed away in my mind for a quick dip on the Vineyard. Remember to always keep a suit and a towel in the back of the car for those times jumping in the water sounds particularly delicious.

Especially in the height of summer when you’ve had enough of Island traffic and people and fighting for parking spots you can feel like there are no quiet places on the whole Vineyard. I covered hikes in my last Local Spots post, which are usually crowd-free, but sometimes you just need to jump in the ocean to wash the day away and don’t want to hunt for a place to park and squeeze between beach umbrellas and blankets. Here are some of my favorite spots for a quick dip. There’s usually always a place to park and because these aren’t all quintessential Vineyard beaches, there are hardly ever people there. Sure, there might be a family or two, but it beats the thousands on South or State Beach at any given moment. And in those times, when I’m floating in the water and no one is around, that’s when I feel like the Vineyard is truly a magical place.

Below for paying subscribers you’ll find a list of some of my favorite quiet beaches on the island.
